Health Department Prepares for Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)

At this time, there are no known cases of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. However, local and state public health officials are actively monitoring and preparing in order to promptly respond to any potential cases should they occur. To date public health officials have monitored approximately 100 individuals, with only one requiring testing. None of these individuals resulted in a confirmed case nor were they within Greenup County.

Greenup County Health Department is in constant contact with the Kentucky Department for Public Health (KYDPH) for any updates related to the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). Greenup County Health Department is committed to working with and passing this information on to local providers as well as the public.

KYDPH regularly communicates with Kentucky’s physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants through several listservs. We also encourage visiting the Cabinet for Health and Family Services page at https://chfs.ky.gov/agencies/dph/pages/covid19.aspx for regular updates. GCHD also posts health alerts for the public as well as provider information on our webpage at http://www.greenuphealth.com.

The immediate health risk of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) to the general public is low. State and local public health officials monitor and investigate communicable disease reports daily. Greenup County Health Department has established procedures to prevent, identify, investigate, contain, and reduce negative impacts associated with all communicable diseases. “The GCHD takes the COVID-19 response seriously and will work to ensure our community is prepared to respond in the most effective manner possible.  Communication at all levels of response is vital to the successful end to the spread of the virus.” stated Chris Crum, Public Health Director of Greenup County Health Department.
